Keep your home in top condition to keep your landlord and property manager happy with these tips and tricks. Ensuring your home is well maintained will ensure the longevity of your lease.

Tenant housekeeping tip 1: managing blocked drains:

If throughout the tenancy, you have a blocked drain, we would recommend you try and use Mr Msucle Draino to clear the drain, if you have tried this and the drain is still blocked, please advise your property manager by submitting a maintenance request advising that you have tried to clean it with Draino.

Please ensure that only toilet paper is ever flushed down a toilet otherwise you may cause a blockage ( tradesmen charge will then be passed onto the tenancy for payment).

Tenant housekeeping tip 2: managing mould:

Throughout the tenancy, if you do not ventilate the property correctly, you may find that mould may start to appear throughout the property. Mould will only appear is damp un-ventilated rooms so please ensure that you follow the below steps to prevent any mould from growing in your property. If you are following the below list and there is still an issue, please contact your property manager. • Ensure that the bathroom window is open and/or exhaust fan is used when you shower. It is recommended that you leave the fan on for at least 20mins – 30mins after you finish showering to allow for the condensation to subside.
• Do not dry wet clothes inside or in a closed room. If you are living in an apartment, please check with your property manager or owner’s corporation regarding hanging clothes outside on the balcony area.
• Ensure that windows and blinds are left open throughout the day or evening when you are home to allow for air flow throughout the property. If you are not home, please ensure that the property is secured at all times.

Tenant housekeeping tip 3: maintaining air conditioner filters:

If throughout the tenancy, you are having issues with your air conditioner/split system unit, please ensure that you have cleaned and wiped down the filers to allow the unit to be used at maximum capacity. The filters should be cleaned every 2-3months as ongoing upkeep for the property. If you are unsure of how to do this, please speak with your property manager.

Tenant housekeeping tip 4: managing your garden:

You are obliged and expected to maintain the grass and lawns by having them cut and edged every 2-3 weeks (minimum) and to have the garden beds weeded. If you are having trouble with this please speak to your property manager and we can assist by arranging a contractor to attend to this at your expense. As the tenant of the property, you expected to water the lawns and gardens in the drier months so you can return the property the way in the same way it was handed to you in.
